Christian Battorff was the son of Martin and Maria Elisabetha (Walborn) Battorff. He was born in the Tulpehocken area in 1724 in what is now Berks County, PA. When his parents arrived there from New York in 1723 it was beyond the frontier in southeastern Pennsylvania. Christian was a veteran of the French & Indian War as were many of his Pennsylvania German neighbors that lived along the edge of civilization in the Tulpehocken region of Berks County, PA. ` He married Eva Regina Karsnitz in 1744 and together they raised a large family of eleven children all born in what is now Bethel Twp., Berks County, PA. His children were Christian, Maria Elizabeth, Christopher, Catharina, Johannes (died young), Anna Regina, Eva, Johannes, Maria Barbara, Christina Elizabeth and Benjamin. Christian was a farmer his whole life and he died May 16, 1781 probably on his homestead in Bethel Twp.,Berks County, PA. He is buried at the Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, in what is now Marion Twp., Berks County, PA. ` Two years before his death in 1781 he pay the Supply Tax in 1779 in Bethel Twp., Berks County, PA. Like many other Pennsylvania Germans he was loyal to the revolutionary cause.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
