John Yant was born on December 22, 1752 in Pennsylvania, a son of Melchior Yant (1707-1777). He served with the Pennsylvania Militia, as a Sergeant in Captain Thomas Parkinson's Company, Washington County Pennsylvania Militia commanded by Colonel Thomas Crooks, October 2, 1781. He married Eva Schuster (1762-1843); children: Samuel b. 1783, Elizabeth, Henry b. 1784, Philip, Michael b. 1788, Margaret, Mary b. 1797, Catherine, John and Susanna b, 1799. They came to Ohio from Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1806. He died on May 7, 1842 in Monroe Township, Carroll County, Ohio, and was buried at the Zion Lutheran Churchyard, Sherrodsville, Monroe Township, Carroll County, Ohio.
