William Wynne was born August 10, 1729, Brunswick County, Virginia and died July 8, 1808, in the town of Locust Hill, Tazewell County, Virginia. He is buried in Wynne-Peery Cemetery, Tazewell. Wynne married first Mary Cynthia Harmon in 1752 and second, Phillis Marrs in 1782. Wynne had eleven children with Mary Harmon and fifteen with Phillis Marrs.
Wynne was a Captain in the Revolutionary War. His home was known as William Wynn's Fort and was located at Locust Hill on the North Fork of the Clinch River near the modern-day town of Tazewell, VA. His Pension Application dated 4 April, 1834, tells the story of his Revolutionary War service. Wynne was the pioneer settler of Tazewell, one of the town's first Justices and a man of influence in the county.
