Lewis Ludwig Winkler Birth: 15 Apr 1726 in Einod, Zweibrucken, Rh.Pfalz, Germany Death: 17 Apr 1798 in Rowan co. NC Lewis Ludwig Winckler arrived in Pennsylvania on September 30, 1754. LIST OF FOREIGNERS IMPORTED IN THE SHIP EDINBURGH, JAMES RUSSEL, MASTER, FROM ROTTERDAM. QUALIFIED SEPT. 30, 1754. Ludwig Winckler (signs name) Lewis Winckler was naturalized as a English citizen per the 1740 act at Bethlehem, Northampton, PA on Sept. 22, 1765. By 1772 Lewis Ludwig is in Rowan County North Carolina and on the tax list. In Feb 1773 Lodwick Winkler is appointed Overseer of the Road in Rowan county NC.
He receives a number of land grants from the North Carolina Revolutionary Government. As Lewis Ludwig is over 50 years of age, he supported the revolution by supplying the Revolutionary Army. Both of his sons served in the militia, Francis (Franz) Winkler in Pennsylvania and Henry in North Carolina. Treasurer and Comptrollers Papers, Revolutionary Army Accounts: S.115.45 Vol A pp 110-111 Ludwig Winkler #3386, Book A page 113 To Ludwick Winkler for Corn &c Voucher 1819 4.0.0 The original German "Will of Lewis Winkler 4/13/1798" Rowan Co. NC, Will Book E, Page 23 was transcribed by W.E. Sykes on 7 July 1997 and names the 7 children, the will does not name his wife, seems to indicate she is alive as the widows portion is mentioned.. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
