Joseph Winch, Jr. was born June 25, 1759 in Framingham, Massachusetts, son of Joseph Winch, Sr. and Mary (Molly) Beals.

Following his marriage March 17, 1779 to Anna Phillips, they lived in Weston, Massachusetts for about a year, then moved to New Hampshire. He enlisted at Kennebec Co., Maine and was a private in the company commanded by Captain Rowell, in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Reed in the New Hampshire line, for the term of three years, from April 1781 to October 1783 He was discharged Oct. 1783 at West Point, NY. His pension application is dated 26 Jul 1830, at the rate of eight dollars per month. In 1790 he is enumerated in the federal census in Freeport, Cumberland County, Maine. His children include sons Joseph and Ezra Winch, and daughter Sally Winch who married Archelaus Tuttle in 1796.

Joseph Winch Jr. died July 20, 1835 in Freeman, Maine. He is buried in the Tuttle Corner Cemetery in Freeman, Somerset County, Maine.
