Author: Mark Andrew Davis
William (or Wilhelm) Wildermuth was born in Württemberg [Germany] on 7 September 1747. There are various spellings of this name and in the records of the Pennsylvania Archives, it is Windermuth.
William was married about 1773 to Maria Barbara Ebling at Alsace Township, Berks County. Their known children: David, born 27 March 1775; John (1), baptized 23 March 1777, died before 1780; William, baptized 23 May 1779; John (2), born 23 November 1780; Henry, born 16 December 1781; Anna Marie, born about 1783 (wife of Abraham Meyers); Daniel, born 16 July 1788; and Abraham, born 16 September 1793.
During the American Revolution, he served as a Private in the Company of Captain Sebastian Emericks of the Berks County, Pennsylvania 3rd Battalion, commanded by Colonel Joseph Hiester (1777-1778).
The DAR Ancestor Database has flagged William’s record requiring new applicants to prove his service. In the past, some of their members referenced a list of fines, which is not proof. However, there are two records of him serving in Emerick’s Company and should be sufficient proof for membership.
In 1805, William and Maria sold their land in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and migrated to Greenfield Township, Fairfield County, Ohio.
He made his will on 11 April 1814 in Greenfield Township, Fairfield County, Ohio. The will is written in German and references his “six children:” David, John, Mary, Henry, Abraham, and Daniel. He indirectly references his wife as their “mother.” There is no mention of son William, so we can assume he died before this will.
The Patriot died on 21 January 1816 in Greenfield Township, Fairfield County, Ohio.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
