Private Stephen Whitmire (Whitmore) enlisted in the Maryland State Line on February 20, 1777, and served with Sullivan’s Wing in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown. During the war years he married Mary Porter. After the war Private Whitmire moved to Hall County, Georgia. At some point Private Whitmire and his wife separated, and he lived the rest of his life among the Cherokee of Georgia until his death in 1831.
