He married Martha Cole on 8 August 1770. Their known children were:
Susanna was born about 7 January 1772 and died 10 December 1774, aged two years, 11 months, three days.
Sally was born about 27 June 1773 and died 14 February 1774, aged seven months, 17 days.
David was born on 29 November 1781 and married Rachel Barrett.
Martin Cole Whitman was born on 17 August 1789 and married Diana Mosher.
Willard was born on 22 November 1798 and married first to Matilda Kimball and second to Caroline L. Bean.
Daniel signed the Association Test at Westmoreland, New Hampshire, on 12 June 1776. He was a Private in Captain Waitstill Scott’s 2nd Company in Colonel Samuel Ashley’s Regiment of New Hampshire Militia, which marched to Fort Ticonderoga on the alarm of 8 May 1777. He served for one month and ten days and was discharged on 17 June 1777.
The Patriot died on 9 February 1829 at Haverhill and was interred at Horse Meadow Cemetery.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
