William Whiteside was born in 1720 (1710?) in Antrimor, Armagh, Ulster, Northern Ireland, and he died before 24 Oct 1780 in Golden Valley, Rutherford Co., North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Stockton in 1740 in Albemarle Co., Virginia. William and Elizabeth were the parents of William Whiteside, Jr. (1747 - 1815) who is also a NSSAR Patriot (P-318755) and a NSDAR Ancestor (A124552).
William Whiteside was a member of the Committee of Safety in Tryon Co., North Carolina, and there are records that he also served in the Militias of both Albemarle Co. and Bedford, Co. Virginia. Earlier, He served in the French and Indian Wars. William Whiteside and his two of his sons (William, Jr. and John) served in the American Revolutionary War, and are listed as being in the Battle of Kings Mountain in North Carolina on 07 Oct 1780 in Lyman Copeland Draper’s book of 1881, Kings Mountain and Its Heroes (Reprinted by Overmountain Press). William was badly wounded in this battle, and he died some days later. William Whiteside is listed as Ancestor #A124553 of the Daughters of the American Revolution for his patriotic service in the signing of the Tryon Co. Association Resolves, as well as his participation in the Battle of Kings Mountain.
