Samuel Whipple was born about 1757 at Smithfield, Rhode Island. He was an Ensign of Tallman’s Rhode Island Regiment, 12 December 1776. He was a second lieutenant in Captain Olney’s Company of the Second Rhode Island Regiment, 11 February 1777. In Fall 1777, he fought at the Siege of Fort Mifflin and the Battle of Red Bank. He resigned 18 January 1778. He married Deborah Jencks of Smithfield. Whipple became a storekeeper at Providence, Rhode Island. He died 17 October 1809, and was buried at Providence.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
