Johann Philip Wentzel was born on 7 June 1739 at Hessen, Ruedigheim, Germany. He is the son of Johann Lorentz and Anna Catherine nee Nagel
They arrived in Philadelphia, 7 September 1748 on the Ship Hampshire, Thomas Cheesman; Captain, from Rotterdam, last from Falmouth.

Berks County Tax records of 1762 thru 1768, 1770 thru 1775 and 1778 thru 1789. He is listed as a Farmer with120 and 90 acres of land in Alsace and Exeter Township, 2 Horses, 2 Cows, 8 sheep

He attends Zion Spies Church in Alsace Township, Berks County his whole life. All his Children are Baptist at this church, and in later years up until his death he is listed as a deacon in the church along with his friend Henrich Faust and Christopher Gerhart.

In 27 August 1777 he took the oath of Allegiance in Berks County.

In 1779, he paid the Federal Supply Tax in Berks County.

In 26 August 1776 he enlisted in Captain Daniel Deturck Company. This company was part of the troops being raised for the Flying Camp being sent to the Battle of long Island. This enlistment was for 2 months, and his pay as a private was 2 pounds a months.

On 10 April 1810, Philip Wentzel writes and signs his last will, His wife Salomeh is still alive, and is well taken care of. His sons, John, Jacob and Daniel are given the lands in Alsace and Exeter Township, Berks County. Christopher is given 5 shillings, because he has received his share during his lifetime. His daughters, Catharina married to Nicholas Boyer to receive 40 pounds, Elisabeth married to Conrad Keller to receive 40 pounds, Margaretha married to Philip Bressler to receive 40 pounds, and all of Anna Maria children to receive 40 pounds to be divided among them. to my daughter, Salomeh married to John Noll the sum of 40 pounds. His will was proved on 23 July 1810.

Philip and his wife Salomeh are buried at Zion Spies Reformed Church, old cemetery, row E, along side his Father Johann Lorentz and Mother Catharina Wentzelin.

Tombstone Inscription: Lorentz Wentzal war geboren D 22 April 1701 und stard 1780, 14 September-Alt 79y. 4 monet 22: On the same tombstone, below that of her husband, is found the inscription of his wife, which reads as follows: "Catharina Wentzelin war geboren1709, 1 Jan. ind starb d. 4 Februar 1793. Theres alter 85-yahre und etlichte taga.
