Author: Thomas E. Atkinson
Captain Charles F. Wall born circa 1741-1742 in Brunswick County, Virginia a son of John and Ann Poythress Wall. He married Mary Elizabeth Bates, daughter of John and Elizabeth Alfred Bates on the 16 December 1762 in Halifax County, Virginia (Marriage of Halifax Co., VA, Knorr, page 83.) Charles and Mary were the parents of nine known children.

Charles Wall was named in several deeds and land entry records (Land Entry Book, Chiarito, pages 205, 293, etc.) in Halifax County from 1760 to 1766 and was left land by his father (Will Book 3, Page 954. Brunswick Co., VA.)

According to the book “Bates Family of Old Virginia and Beyond” page 46, the Wall family lived on Reedy Bottom, on River Road near the county line of Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

Charles Wall commanded a company of Halifax County, Virginia, militia, 1777 resigning the position at the June 1781 court. He also served as a Captain with the 2nd Va., State Reg. on the Continental Line in 1781.

Wall appears in the “Heads of Families – Virginia 1782” in Halifax County with 9 whites and 5 blacks. His will was probated 26 July 1802 in Halifax County, Virginia.

Captain Charles Wall was my 4th great grandfather.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
