GEORGE WALKER (born November 21, 1745, died October 12, 1833) George Walker (son of William Walker and Sarah) was born November 21, 1745 in Fauquier Co., Va., and died October 12, 1833 in Pikesville, Bledsoe Co., TN. He married (1) Charlotte Buckner. He married (2) Eleanor Hicks on 1767 in Burke Co., NC

The following notes furnished by John T. Hull. From "Revolutionary War Soldiers of Western North Carolina: Burke County, Volume I," by Emmett R. White, p. 293: "Born Fauquier Co., Virginia, November 20, 1745. He was living on the South Fork of the Catawba River in Rowan, later Burke Co., NC, at the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

SUMMARY OF MILITARY SERVICE - George Walker entered Revolutionary Service as a volunteer militiaman in Rowan (later Burke) County, N.C. in 1776 in Captain John Hardin's Company of Colonel Beekman's Regiment. (He received a commission as a lieutenant in Captain Hardin's Company in February, 1776). He participated in Rutherford's Cross Creek Expedition, (the latter part of the Moore's Creek Bridge Campaign). They assisted in suppressing Tory activities and in conveying prisoners. He returned to Burke County and was stationed on the Catawba Frontier. In early 1779, when Captain Hardin left the company to go to SC, George Walker was elected Captain of his company. The company was a part of Colonel Charles McDowell's Burke Regiment.

NC Militia Brigade led by Col. Charles McDowell with the following known units: Burke County Regiment of Militia (NC) led by Col. Charles McDowell and Major Joseph McDowell, with the following twenty (20) known companies, one led by:

On June 20, 1780, he led his company at the Battle of Ramsour's Mill. He mentioned the deaths of Captain Galbraith Falls and Captain Joseph Patton. He also mentioned that Captains Wilson and Reed were wounded. In the Kings Mountain Campaign he directed his company to the battle ground but did not arrive in time for the action. Later they were in the action at Blackstrocks in November, 1780 on the Tyger River in SC. He also led his company at Cowpens, under Major Joseph McDowell and General Daniel Morgan (January 17, 1781). He continued to serve as captain of his company until February 16, 1782.

He moved to Knox Co., TN in 1796 and then to Bledsoe Co., TN in 1807. He applied for Revolutionary War pension in Bledsoe Co TN in 1832, and was awarded $230.00 per annum.

George Walker died in Bledsoe Co., TN October 12, 1833. His wife preceded him in death. LAND HOLDINGS AND TRANSACTIONS George Walker received the following NC Land Grants in Burke County:

200 acres on Henry River (of S. Fork of Catawba) adjacent to his upper survey. The land lay adjacent to land belonging to Leonard Patterson, (1779).
50 acres on S. Fork of Catawba, adjacent to land formerly entered by David Williams, (1788).
300 acres on Wards Branch of Little Broad River, including "improvements whereon the Folkinbery's (Falconbarry) now lives," (1788).
150 acres on S. Fork of Catawba including improvements of Edward Dougherty, (1795).
