Isaac was born in Lower Smithfield Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania in 1764 to Joseph and Elizabeth Wybern Van Orman. There were eleven children in the family of Joseph and Elizabeth. Isaac, along with his brother, Ephraim - and his father Joseph - all served in the Revolutionary War - by service in the Pennsylvania Militia and in the Wyoming Valley Controversy. They were involved in protection of the early colonists during the Iroquois Indian and Tory wars.
Isaac, brother Ephraim, and their father Joseph Van Orman were together in a garrison at the Wyoming Controversy in 1782.
According to the Pennsylvania Archives, Isaac served with the 2nd Company of the 5th Battalion of the Northampton Pennsylvania Militia under Captain Benjamin Schonover. This is published in the Pennsylvania Archives A (5) VIII, pages 567-9. His service is also documented in PA Archives Series 2, Vol 18, Pg 637 and Series 3, Vol 19, pg 282 & 394; Series 3, Vol 23, pg 461, and Series 6, Vol 3, pg 803.
He was married (1) Elizabeth Sarah Trusdale and (2) Patty Hickox. Isaac Van Orman is last shown in the 1850 census, taken August 23, as living in Bath, Summit County, Ohio and being 86 years of age.

This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
