Valentin Trautmann was born on 17 July 1752, in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, the son of Johannes & Eva Elizabeth (Bauer) Trautmann. His parents were from Schriesheim, near Heidelberg, Germany. They arrived at the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1743 and settled in the Tulpehocken region of Lancaster County (now Berks County), Pennsylvania.
On 27 April 1784, in Berks County, Pennsylvania, Reverend William Boos married Valentin and Maria Margaretha Preuss (1765-1822). They were the parents of seven children: Eva Elisabeth, Philip, Maria Elisabeth, Susanna, Margaretha, John, and Samuel.
During the Revolutionary War, Valentin served as a private in Captain Michael Furrer’s Company, 3rd Battalion, Berks County, Pennsylvania, Militia. Valentin took the Oath of Allegiance to the state of Pennsylvania on 18 May 1778 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He also paid the supply tax in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, in 1779, 1780, and 1781. This tax was used the raising supplies in the war against Great Britain.
Valentin was a farmer his entire life in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He died on 19 April 1822 at his plantation in Tulpehocken Township Valentin, and his wife Maria Margaretha are buried at the old cemetery, St. John’s Host Church, Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Most of the Trautman / Troutman families of Berks and Lebanon Counties are descendants of this patriotic Trautmann family.
