George Trautmann was born in May 1733 in Schriesheim, Germany. He was the son of Hieronimus & Margaretha (Kruger) Trautmann. He and his parents arrived at the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania aboard the ship St. Andrew on 7 October 1743. Hieronimus Trautmann and his family settled in Heidelberg Township, Lancaster County (now Lebanon County), Pennsylvania in the area of Schaefferstown.

George Trautmann married Maria Christina Eckert (1745-1804), the daughter of John & Angelica (Hicks) Eckert. They were the parents of ten children:

  1. Elizabeth.
  2. Anna Maria.
  3. Johannes.
  4. Jonas.
  5. Angelica “Nelly.”
  6. Catharine.
  7. Susanna.
  8. John.
  9. Philip.
  10. Margaret.

During the Revolutionary War, George Trautmann served as a Captain in the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia. He also took the Oath of Allegiance to the state of Pennsylvania on 20 October 1778, in Heidelberg Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

George Trautmann was a farmer his entire life in Lancaster County (now Lebanon County), Pennsylvania. He died on 17 March 1791, at his plantation in Heidelberg Township George Trautmann is buried at the Reformed Church Cemetery, Schaefferstown, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. His widow Maria Christina went to live with her daughter Angelica in 1801 in Maryland and she is buried at Funkstown, Washington County, Maryland.
