Born on March 5, 1765 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, Jeremiah Thomas served in the Massachusetts Militia as a Private in Capt. Jonah Washburn's Company, Colonel Ebenezer White's Regiment; he marched August 1, 1780 and served 9 days; the company marched to Rhode Island on the alarm of August 1, 1780; roll sworn to at Middleboro in Capt Henry Peirce's Company, Colonel Theophilus Cotton's Regiment; enlisted March 8,1781; discharged March 31, service, 26 days, at Rhode Island, including travel (65 miles) out and home; company raised by order of his Excellance Hancock to serve for 40 days, unless sooner discharged.
His marriage is unknown. He died at 84 years of age in 1849 in Marietta, Ohio and is buried at Mound Cemetery, 5th & Scammel Streets, Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. Cemetery Notes: "The Mound Cemetery was established in 1801 by the citizens of Marietta, Ohio, to preserve an Ohio Hopewell burial mound dating from 100 BC to 500 AD, and provide for settler burials. After the Revolutionary War, the area along the Ohio River and Marietta attracted many veterans rewarded with land grants. General Rufus Putnam donated land for the cemetery. The cemetery is thought to have the largest number of Revolutionary War Officer burials, among other important Ohio River pioneer settlers and Northwest Territory politicians. Burials continue to today despite the limited space." His grave has a tombstone and an SAR marker.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
