Author: Ronald David Irons

Born June 29, 1744 Hagerstown, MD.

Died July 24, 1815 Pitt Gas, PA.

Married Rachel Pribble 1769 in Redstone, Old Fort, PA.

Served as a third class man with Captain William Huston’s Company, Fifth Company, Fourth Battalion of Cumberland County Militia, Commanded by Colonel Samuel Culbertson May 1, 1781. Suffered Depredation.

George served on the Committee of Safety, supplied troops during the Revolutionary War and was active during the Whiskey Rebellion. See NSDAR No. 393742.  Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge Bell Tower memorial lists George as a Private in the Pennsylvania Line.

“George of Clarksville” Around the time of his marriage to Rachel, he appears in the official records of Pennsylvania with a “tomahawk grant” of land. After selecting a site for his house, George called the neighbors in to assist in rearing it. When the work was about to begin, a raw-boned denizen of the forest made his appearance and claimed the ground. No further progress could be made in building until the question of
ownership was settled. As no legal tribunal had yet been established over this territory, the only method of deciding was by personal combat. They agreed that whomever proved himself the better man would be entitled to his claim. The contest was long and bloody, but the youthful vigor of Teagarden was in the end triumphant. His antagonist, after having washed and dressed his wounds, remained to help build the cabin - ever after on friendly terms. Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
