Author: Charles Edwin Finley
Benjamin Sutton was born 20 Sep 1759 in Somerset County, New Jersey.

He served by enlisting as a private in April of 1777 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He served eight months as a private in Capt. John Minor's company under Colonel Zac Morgan with the Pennsylvania Troops engaged at against hostile Indians forts on the western frontier.

In April of 1778, he again volunteered at Garret's Fort on Whitely Creek and served eight months as a private in Captain Samuel Swingler's Pennsylvania Company under General McIntosh and assisted in building Fort McIntosh In Pennsylvania and Fort Laurens in Ohio.

Benjamin died 4 Sep 1840 and is buried at the Decatur Cemetery in Brown County Ohio. He married Sarah Tingley in 1779 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. They had three children:

Sarah (1780-1841)
Tingley (1782-1843)
Otho (1784-1845)
