Mildred Davis Suggett was born 03 May 1758 in Orange County, Virginia, and she died 11 Jul 1834 in Great Crossings, Scott County, Kentucky. Mildred Davis Suggett married John Suggett on 15 Jul 1772 in Orange County, Virginia. Their place of residence at the end of the Revolutionary War in 1782 was Bryan’s Station, Kentucky where they both helped defend the station against about 50 Canadian Rangers and 300 Wyandot Indians in what was to be the next-to-last battle of the American Revolutionary War in Kentucky. The warning of hostile troops surrounding the station came before the day’s water supply had been brought back into the fort. Captain John Craig, the station’s commander, decided to send about 35 women, including Mildred Davis Suggett, and their daughters to the spring for water. Craig believed that the enemy was not yet ready to attack, and that they would not harm the women and girls because their action would have alerted the garrison to their presence. Craig’s plan worked, and the brave women and girls returned safely to the fort with water. Not only was this ruse necessary to obtain water to withstand the siege, but also it allowed time for two messengers to slip away from the station and ride to nearby Lexington for help. Mildred Davis Suggett is recognized as both a NSSAR Patriot and a NSDAR Ancestor (A110771) for her service in the defense of Bryan’s Station, and her name is on the NSDAR monument commemorating this action of the American Revolutionary War.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
