Joseph Stumpf/Stumpff was born December 27, 1730 at Steimke, Lower Saxony, Germany.
By July 1750 Joseph and Elizabeth, his wife, took the long journey to the Colonies on the ship Two Brothers, that left from the Port of Rotterdam. Two Brothers was a three-mast merchant ship with a burden rating of 250 tons that carried 14 guns with a crew of 14 in addition to the captain. It was capable of transporting about 300 passengers from Europe to Philadelphia.
Joseph took the Oath of Allegiance, August 28, 1750, after arriving at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Between 1759 and 1781, Joseph and Elizabeth had four sons (John, Joseph, Christian, Jacob) and five daughters (Maria, Catharine, Elisabeth, Susanna, Hannah) at Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
In 1775 at the age of 45, Joseph was called to serve his nation in the Revolutionary War.
By 1815, Joseph was living at Northampton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
At the age of 86 and having lived a long life, Joseph died April 27, 1817 at Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
