John Stukey/Stucky was born on 9 August 1742, the son of Johannes and Anna (Egner) Stukey, at the old Stukey homestead in Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
John Stukey married Salome Zimmerman, in about 1764. Their known children were:
John was born on 10 January 1764.
Elizabeth was born in about 1766.
Peter was born on 4 April 1770.
Margaret was born in about 1775.
Salome was born in about 1777.
Christina was born on 23 March 1779.
Anna was born on 18 January 1781.
Jacob was born in about 1782.
Catherine was born in 17 March 1784.
Samuel was born on 9 February 1786.
Barbara was born on 7 August 1790.
Joseph was born on 24 September 1792.
John provided Patriotic Service in 1779 by paying the Supply Tax in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He served in the Company of Captain George Volcks of the Ninth Lancaster Battalion, commanded by Colonel John Huber from 25 May 1778 until 8 October 1778. In 1780, 1781, and 1782 he was in the Company of Captain Phillip Duck of the Third Battalion, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Bower in 1780 and Lieutenant George Feathers in 1781 and 1782.
Following the Revolution, John appears in Lancaster County records as owning a distillery. As an adult, John remained on the family farm with his parents until the death of his mother in 1800, then sold the farm for $7,850.00. He moved to Fairfield County, Ohio, in 1801.
He erected a small log cabin and a barn, then in 1809, he built a large log barn to accommodate his growing harvests. In 1813, he erected a large two-story house and acquired over 500 acres of land. His house was still standing in 1939.
John Stukey died on 8 August 1818 and was buried at the Stukey Cemetery near Sugar Grove, Ohio.
