Author: William Robert Baccus
John Stovall, Sr., was born between 1710 and 1721, in Henrico County, Virginia, and died in 1781 in Granville, North Carolina. He took the Oath of Allegiance in John Yancey’s District, County Line District, Granville County, North Carolina. He was listed in the Muster Roll of Granville County, North Carolina on September 6, 1755. In November of 1780 he was paid 75 pounds for corn in support of the American Revolutionary Army. His father was Bartholomew Stovall and his mother was Anne Burton. He married Dorcas Daulton in 1732 in Granville County, North Carolina. Their 11 children are Delilah, Bartholomew, John, Jr., Elizabeth, William, Thomas, Josiah, George, Dury, Anne, and Benjamin.

John Stovall Sr. was born in 1702 in Henrico, Virginia to Bartholomew and Ann Stovall.
In 1732, he owned Patented land on Deep Creek in Goochland Co., VA, then he moved to Lunenburg Co., VA in 1748. He married Dorcas Drury in 1734 in Goochland, Virginia and they had 12 children.
He joined the Military on 08 Oct 1754 as a member of Col. William Baton's Regiment, Daniel Harris' Company, Granville Co.NC. During the Revolution he took the Oath Of Allegiance To State of NC between 22 May-02 Aug 1778 in John Yancys Dist. Granville Co., NC. and gave corn & supplies to the Army.
He prepared his Will on 29 Jul 1781 in Granville, North Carolina and died Nov 1781.
