Johannes Stoever’s parents are John (aka Johann) Casper Stoever (1707-79) and Maria Catherine (aka Catarina) Merkling (1715-95). Johannes’ father, Rev. John Casper Stoever (Jr) the younger, age 21 is recorded to have arrived on 11 Sep 1728 at Philadelphia, aboard the ship James Goodwill with Johannes’ grandfather, age 43 (Rev.) Johann Casper Stöever and family.
Johannes’ grandfather, above, is identified as a Missionarie and John Casper (Jr) age 21 appears recorded on pg. 58 as a “S.S. Theol. Student” in the publication entitled, Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants in Pennsylvania by Prof. I. Daniel Rupp, Genealogical Publ. Co., Reprint from 2nd Edition (Philadelphia), 1876) Baltimore, MD.
Three brothers including Johannes, also known as (aka) John St(o)ever appears listed within the “State of the Accounts of the Lieut. and Sub-Lieut.’s of Lancaster County,” of Pennsylvania Archives, Series 3, Volume VI (1896) pgs. 419 – 421 as an enlistee from Mar, 1780, to May, 1781 in Capt. Orth’s 1st Company, Lancaster County, with Tobias St(o)ever and Adam St(o)ever (aka John Adam Stoever) in Col. Christopher Kucher’s Rgt. (PA) Militia.
Johannes was born on 5 Jul 1753 and baptized at Hill Lutheran Church, 998 N. Mill Street, Lebanon, PA, 17046 on 15 Jul, 1753 according to records appearing upon pg. 32 of “Records of Rev. John Casper Stoever (Jr): Baptismal and Marriage, 1730 -1779 Harrisburg, PA.: Harrisburg Publ. Co. 1896.” Hill Lutheran Church is the oldest Lutheran church organized in Lebanon Township, Lebanon County, PA, founded in 1733 by Pastor John Casper Stoever (Jr) the younger and his father, Rev. Johann Casper Stöever.
A fourth brother of Johannes’, John Casper Stoever (III), born 10 Mar 1736; baptized 14 Mar, appears listed (pg. 419, for military service, Mar 30th) as Capt. Casper Stoever of the 3rd Company, Lancaster County; Col. Christopher Kucher’s Rgt. (PA) Militia within the Pennsylvania Archives, Series 3, Vol. VI (1896) pgs. 419, 420-22.
A fifth brother, John Frederich Stoever, born 20 Sep 1759, baptized on 30 Sep 1759 at Hill Lutheran Church, Lebanon County, PA, was also listed with Revolutionary War militia service in the Pennsylvania Archives, Series 5, Vol. VII (1906) pgs. 154, 175. Captain Casper Stoever’s record appears recorded within the same series and volume, as above, on pgs. 118, 124, 144, 150, 152 and 170; John Adam [aka Adam] pgs. 146 and 166 with his brother Johannes (aka John); and, Tobias appears upon pgs. 147, 166.
Johannes married Anna Engle (aka Angenes Kisseckern) Kissecker (1750-1817) on 24 May 1774 at Hill Lutheran Church, Cleona, Lebanon Twp., PA. From this Holy State of Matrimony the following children survived from birth: daughters Catarina Stoever (1775-1856); Anna Christina Stoever (1780); Magdalena Stoever (1785); Anna Maria Stoever (1792); and a daughter -1810; sons –John Stoever (1778-1858); Frederich Stoever (1784); Samuel Stoever (1789).
Johannes died on 20 Jul 1823 according to The Empire State (SAR) Society applicant member #5632 approved, 15 Mar 1935; and, National Society member #53951 as a descendant of Johann(es) Stoever.
