THOMAS STOCKTON: Born 1709, Lancaster County PA. Son of Robert and Isabella Stockton. It is possible that he was born in Ireland and came here with his parents. About 1730 Thomas married Margaret Fleming in Lancaster County PA. She was born c1710 in Ireland the daughter of John and Sarah ‘Flemon‘. Thomas and Margaret had 8 children; 4 sons and 4 daughters.
Thomas Stockton, father of Robert, listed above, served as a Captain of the 8th Company, 4th Battalion, York County PA Militia in 1778 at the age of 69. In 1780 he served as a member of the Revolutionary War “Committee for the Confiscation of Estates”. He had also served as a York County Commissioner from 1765 to 1768. Thomas died 31 May 1795 at the home of his daughter, Elizabeth Waddell, in Mercersburg, Franklin County PA. His wife, Margaret, had died prior to 1777. He is buried in Church Hill Cemetery, Upper Conocheaque PA.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
