James Stevenson II (May 27, 1747-Sept 3,1828) Provided Patriotic Service - Militia
James Stevenson II (Stephenson) son of James Stephenson I, who settled in the Vashti region of what is now the NE corner Alexander County, NC. At the time James Stephenson I acquired 640 acres of land this area was a part of Rowan County. It was surveyed October 17, 1782.
James Stevenson II (Revolutionary Stevenson) served in the local Militia group with Captain Joseph Sharp. They were under the command of Colonel Francis Locke who reported to General Rutherford. This unit fought at the battle of Ramsour’s Mill in June 1780.
Pvt. Stevenson then joined the Militia unit lead by Colonel Ben Cleveland in Wilkes County, just over the Brushy Mountains from his home in Vashti.
When this unit was mobilized to join the “Over the Mountain Men” coming from what is now Tennessee at Quaker Meadows, Stevenson made this journey. He traveled to Kings Mountain and fought in that battle on October 7, 1780. Stevenson then entered the militia group lead by Colonel William Campbell as they joined the group making the “Dash to the Dan” and fought with that group in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse on March 15, 1781.
He stayed with the NC troops and fought in the “Siege of Yorktown” September 18 to October 19, 1781.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
