Johan Peter Stein was born, on 7 April 1722 at Birkenfeld, Rheinland Pfalz, Germany. He is the son of Johann Sebastian Stein and Anna Catherine nee Arnoldt. He came to Philadelphia on 5 September 1748 on board the ship “Edinburg”, Captain James Russel from Rotterdam, last from Portsmouth. On board, were his brothers, Abraham and Heinrich Stein.
Peter married Anna Catherine Anspach, who was born 27 December 1727 at Tulpehocken Township, then Chester County. She is the daughter of Balthasar Anspach and Anna Maria Bern nee Rieth. They arrived in America at the Colony of New York as indentured servants to Queen Anne in 1710. On 16 July 1711, Baltz Anspach of Hunterstown was a Palatine Volunter in the Canadian Expedition, serving as a private in Captain John Peter Kneskern’s Company in Queen Anne’s War. In May of 1723, Balthasar Anspach and 15 other families, including my other ancestors, Johann Peter klopp, George Rieth, Godfrey Fidler, Michael Schauer, George Hain, Johan laux, and Johann Becker made the 400 mile trip south to the Tulpahaca Valley (Tulpehocken) and became the first Palatine Settlers to live here.
Peter and Anne Catherine were married 30 March 1752 at Christ Evangelical Church, Stouchsburg, Berks County. They had 10 children, their names being, Johannes, Peter, Anna Elisabeth, Leonard, Frederick John, Maria Margaret, Catharine, Philip, Eve Barbara and George Phillip.
On the 2nd July 1777, Peter Stein takes the Oath of Allegiance at Stouchsburg, Berks County, Pa.
On 30 January 1799, Peter dies, then on 28 August 1799, his wife Anna Catharina dies, they are both buried by each others side at Christ Lutheran Cemetery (aka Long’s Cemetery) Stouchsburg, Pa. Peter is buried in row 15, 4th from the wall. Anna Catharina is buried in row 15, 5th from wall.
