Joseph Starnes (1755-1844)

Private Joseph Starnes was born in Smiths River Virginia on April 3, 1755. He was a member of a militia unit under command of Colonel William Campbell. He was in the group of patriots who gathered at Sycamore Shoals in Tennessee and traveled “Over the Mountain” to fight at Kings Mountain October 7, 1780.

He settled in North Carolina and is buried at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Alexander County, North Carolina.
