Belcher Starkweather was born 1 January 1755 at Stonington, New London County, Connecticut to John and Elizabeth Belcher Starkweather. He married Mary Leonard on 30 December 1784 in Preston, Connecticut. Their marriage was blessed with seven children: Mehetable Morgan, Woodbury, Thomas, Mary Standish, Leonard, Elizabeth Hough, and James. Belcher served as a Private in Captain Huntington’s Company of the 17th Connecticut Regiment. He was discharged from hospital in Stamford where he was sick in November 1776. Belcher passed on 1 March 1831 at Preston, New London County, Connecticut and is buried at Leonard Cemetery in Griswold, New London County, Connecticut.
