Johan Peter Sones (Peter Sones) -- Pennsylvania
Peter Sones was born on November 23, 1755 in Richmond Township, Berks County, PA to German immigrant parents. While a resident of that Township Peter enlisted in the Continental Army, Company of Captain Jacob Moser. As a Private he participated in the Battle of Long Island under Capt. Moser, the Battle of Staten Island under Col. Haller, and the Battle of White Plains under General Washington’s Command. He continued on “hard service” in Jersey until Ft. Washington on the North River was taken. He then returned home having completed a seven month enlistment. At Windsor Township, Berks County, PA in the Fall of 1777, Peter enlisted again in the Continental Army for six months to drive a team under command of Col. Morgan. From Reading , PA he drove a team in the company of five other wagons under Wagon Master Barney Kepler to Quaker Hill, the location of the Army at that time. After service in the Continental Army he served in the Pennsylvania Militia as a guard of the public stores at Reading PA for a period of two months, under the command of Capt. McMurray. Following military service, he moved to Lycoming County, PA where he was a farmer and land owner. He married Elizabetha (her family name is thought to be Merkle) and they had eight children. Peter Sones died in Moreland Township, Lycoming County, PA on Nov 3, 1850.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
