Author: David Merrill Leonard
Michael Smith was born on 7 June 1752 near Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD. He served for two years as a Private in the Company of Captain Cresap Rollins in the Maryland Continental Line. This service is documented in pension affidavits filed by his widow. Michael married Regina Fruit, (b. 1775) on 2 May 1783 in Washington County, MD. She died around 1797.

Michael moved his family to Montgomery County, KY where he married Nancy Levite, a widow, (b. 1776) on 18 September 1797. They relocated to Bourbon, (now Harrison) County, KY and lived there from 1800 through 1842 based on census and tax records.

Michael returned to military service when he served in Captain McAfee's Co. in the Kentucky Militia during the War of 1812. He dies on 24 November 1842. Nancy moved to Rush Co., IN and pursued a pension on the account of Michael's service. She died on 28 December 1850 after being awarded a pension.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
