Born on February 27, 1760, in Somerset Co, New Jersey. He served in the New Jersey Line as a Pvt. 8 months serving in NJ Continental Army in Capt Hedley's Company, Col Aaron Hankinsons Regt, Sept 1776 to Sept 1777 in Capt Staat's Company. He was in battle Germantown. He married Dorcas Adams; Children: Israel, Abraham, John b. 1781, Phineas b. 1788, Daniel b. 1789, Dorcus, Benjamin and Isaiah b. 1795. They Moved to Belmont county Ohio in 1799 and Morgan County in 1830. He Died after March 23, 1837 in Morgan Co., burial at Baptist Cemetery, Penn Township, Morgan Co., OH. Date of last payment of Pension. Soldier lived in Sussex County, New Jersey at enlistment. After the Revolution he lived in Virginia for about 14 years. In 1799 he moved to Belmont County, Ohio and in 1830 he moved to Morgan County, Ohio. He was secured a pension from Revolutionary War, Ref. S4826. On his application executed Aug 1, 1832, in Belmont Co. At that time he was a resident of Morgan Co. Ref: Natl No 230402, Miss Myrtle Moore, Nelsonville, OH. Fur infor Elizabeth Zane Dew Chap. Benjamin Shepard Enlisted in Revolutionary War, Sussex Co, NJ. From "Abstracts of Revolution War Pension Files": Benjamin, New Jersey Line, S4826, soldier was born 27 Feb 1760 in Somerset Co, NJ. He was living in Sussex Co, NJ at enlistment. After the Revolution he lived in Virginia for about 14 yrs. In 1799, he moved to Belmont Co, Ohio. In 1830, he moved to Morgan Co, Ohio; where he was living when he applied for a pension on 1 Aug 1832. The soldier's sister, Mary Moore (age 69 yrs) of Belmont Co, Ohio, made an affidavid on 3 Aug 1832.
