Jacob Seabourn was born in 1762 in Jersey County, England.

He was a private in the First Virginia Regiment of Dragoons under Captains Hughes and James Gunn, commanded by Colonel White. His Revolutionary War Pension file S37373 states that he enlisted in New Kent County, Virginia, on 10 June 1781 and that his enlistment ended on 10 July 1783. He was discharged in North Carolina at that time. He was in the Battle of Eutaw Springs and the fight between General Anthony Wayne and Native American warriors near Savannah.

Jacob applied for a pension on 17 Sep 1818 as a Clay County, Kentucky resident. His known wives were:

  • Annie [maiden name not recorded]
  • Mrs. Ann Harris, whom he married on 28 February 1799 in Madison County, Kentucky

In his pension file, children listed in his household in 1822 are:

  • George W. was born about 1805 and married Martha Pearl.
  • Thomas P. was born about 1808 and married Mary Johnson.
  • Frances was born in 1810 and married Hiram Young.
  • Sally was born on 3 March 1813 and married Hiram Casteel.
  • Pleasant P.
  • Aley (not listed in household) was born about 1806 and married Stokley Bunch.

On the 1810 Census Jacob is listed as living in Madison County, Kentucky. In 1820, he was listed as a resident in Clay County, Kentucky, and 1830, he was listed as a resident in Laurel County, Kentucky.

The Patriot died on 16 May 1840 while living in Laurel County, Kentucky. His exact burial location is unknown, but it is believed to be in Clay County, Kentucky.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
