Author: Robert Wayne Ginger Allison USN

George Rymer was born at Brixton, Surrey, England about 1755, a son of George Rymer, Sr., and Sarah Dodgson.  He immigrated to America in 1772.  He married Nellie Murphy in 1783 while living at Augusta County, Virginia.  He and Nellie had five children together.  Nellie passed away in 1825 at the age of 71 years.  George married Delila Davis in 1829 at Pendleton County, Virginia.  They had four children together.

While living at Augusta County, Virginia, Rymer enlisted in the Virginia Militia in 1780 as a private for a tour ofthree months to fight the British.  He was in a company commanded by Captain Gibbons and also served under Captains Bell and Buckhannon.  He served his three months and was discharged at Guilford Courthouse.  He returned home to Augusta County.  In the fall of 1781, he was drafted again and marched to Richmond in a company of Militia commanded by Captain Buckhannon in the regiment of Colonel Samuel Vance.  He was discharged at Winchester, Virginia.

He applied for and received a Revolutionary War Pension while a resident of Pendleton County, Virginia, in 1834.  George passed away 30 November 1845, at Highland County, Virginia.  He was buried at the Beverage Cemetery at Monterey, Highland County.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
