Author: Michael B. Gunn
Born on May 8, 1758 York Co. Pennsylvania. He served as a Pvt with PA in the Revolutionary War. He married Margaret Goetz; children: Catherine, Jacob, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Mary & Adam. He Died on April 22, 1840 and Buried at Unity Brick Church Cemetery, Plot Old Section, 1993 Waterford Road, East Palestine, Columbiana Co., OH 44413. Adam Rupert as told, came to Columbiana Ohio with three other brothers, Martin, John, and Michael. They were born in Pensylvania, possibly York County. He built log cabin shown presently located on Metz Road. 1870 Map Unity Range 1 Twp 8 Section 17 shows Rupert property owned by Rebecca Snook Rupert (widow of son Jacob)and J. Rupert (son) possibly living in log home on 33 1/2 acres.

Some notes from Don Rupert (1913-2009): Recent newspaper clipping in Columbiana paper about Ruperts, Rummells and Woods states they all helped pioneer Columbiana County. The article mentions that Adam Rupert came to America with his three older brothers in 1764. He served in the Revolutionary war and moved to Unity Township in 1800 at the age of 44. The article states Rupert was the first to go to the office in Steubenville for land in Unity Township. He bought two iron stoves which heated the home he built, a two story log cabin with a loft, entireley. There was no fireplace in the home that still stands on Metz Road. He married Elizabeth Goetz. Rupert is buried behind the Unity Brick Church, where his decendents errected a monument to him in the 1920's. According to church records, the first meeting of that church were actually held in Rupert's home in 1802. Rupert and his son Jacob, were both important in the church's history. See more information from article under Son Jacob and son Benjamin.
Adam Rupert bought sec 17 in Unity twp in 1800. He built his house and barn on ground adjacent to and elevated above a flood plain which has become a swamp since Beaver Lake was built in the 1981-20 period. Very likely it was not forested when Adam bought and was a great benefit to him as a source of good pasture and hay for his livestock. Three springs watered the area. From this flood plain water flows north in to the Mahoning River drainage system and south into the Little Beaver Run system. Soil types in area include much Wooster soil which is considered the best in the area. Wooster soil was heavily forested with massive big oak, poplar , ash and chestnut, some hickory, walnut and on thinner soils beech and sugar maple. Adam was one of the founding fathers of the Reformed church known variously as the Forney Church. (Henry Forney supplied the land. The Reformed Church, Salem Church, Unity Brick Church and perhaps more. It was located a little over 1 mile east of Adams home on sec. 10 of Unity twp. The original log church was replaced with a substantial brick church in 1828-29 and that one in 1875 which, with additions still stands.. Both a Luthern and a Reformed congregation share the church unit about 1840. End DR notes.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
