From the Runyon Genealogy by Robert and Amos Runyon, the first record of John Runyon in Kentucky was his appearance in the 1820 Census of Floyd County, KY. Pike County, KY was formed in 1821 and soldier lived in that part of Floyd County which later became Pike County. The 1830 Pike County Census list John as between sixty and seventy, his wife between seventy and eighty and a daughter more than thirty years old. The 1840 Pike County Census does not list John Runyon as the head of a household, however there is an elderly couple living with his son Adron Runyon’s family. It is therefore reasonable to believe that this couple was John and his wife living with their son. There are also records that show John Runyon assisted in surveying several parcels of land in the Pond Creek area for other people.
John Runyon married Elizabeth Runner and their children were 1) Nancy who married John Stafford in Tazwell County, VA. 2) Henry Runyon was born in 1788 in that part of Montgomery County that later became Tazewell County, VA & married Hannah Collins 01 Feb 1810 in Tazwell County and in 1850 were living not far from where his parents lived in Pike County; 3) Susannah Runyon was born 1797 in Virginia, she married Alexander Varney in Floyd County, KY; 4) Adron Runyon was born in Tazewell County, Virginia 14 Jun 1801 and married Jane Maynard 23 Dec 1824 in Pike County, KY; 5) Anne Runyon married Charles Lusk 20 Jun 1811 in Tazewell County, VA.; 6) Charity born about 1792 in Virginia and was probably an invalid from birth and died 25 Aug 1818 and buried beside her parents.
John Runyon’s son Adron was a large land holder on Pond Creek of Pike County, Ky. He was granted 1,192 acres of coal and timber land and he purchased other large tracts. When his will was probated he left his estate to his wife and children excepting a tract to be used as a church and cemetery site. Adron and his wife are buried in this cemetery along with other family members including John Runyon and his wife Elizabeth Runner.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
