When Matthew Rue, Jr. was born in 1740, his father, Matthew, was 34 and his mother, Margaret, was 40. He had at least two sons and three daughters with Catherine Voorhees between 1780 and 1793.
He served in the American Revolution as a Private in the NJ Militia in Capt Kenneth Hankison's company, 1st Regiment of Monmouth Militia.
He died on October 19, 1824, in Cranbury, New Jersey, having lived a long life of 84 years, and was buried there.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
