Andrew Rowe was born about 1761. He is first found in Pennsylvania, but his actual place of birth is unknown. Spelling variants of his surname include Rau, Raugh, Row, etc. Records give his given name as both Andreas and Andrew. There are some baptismal records that reference George Rau and Margaretta, while others name Andreas Rau.
During the Revolutionary War, Andrew served as a Private with Lieutenant George Row in the 4th Company of the 6th Battalion at Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
Andrew married at least three times. His first wife was Elizabeth “Betsey” Sells. Their marriage would have been before the birth of the eldest known child in 1782. Elizabeth died before the birth of this first child with his second wife in 1797.
His second wife was Elisabeth “Elisa” Barbara Heintzelman. In History of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, Vol. 2, page 533, Barbara is referred to as “…Mrs. Andreas Rau as a daughter of Hans George Heitzelman.” They married before the birth of their first known child in 1797.
Andrew married again, about 1817, to Margaret or Margaretta, likely near Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he resided.

Henry was baptized on 6 August 1819.
John Michael was baptized on 12 August 1821.
Andrew Rowe’s Last Will and Testament places him at Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County. The Will is of record in Vol. 2, Will 733. With the exception of his wife “Margareth” and daughter “Elizabeth,” he only refers to his other children as his “…other sons and daughters…” The will was signed on 31 July 1820.
Andrew died on 30 September 1821, and a non-contemporary headstone was erected at the Saint Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
