  1. 1775, he served as a Private in the company of Jacob Holman, commanded by Colonel Barbour during Dunmore's War

Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn

ROUSH, JACOB, born in 1746, in Shenandoah Co, Va. Parents : John and Susannah Roush. He served with VA as a Pvt under Capt John Tipton and as a Private in Captain Jacob Holm's co., Shenandoah Co., (VA) militia. See Romney and Winchester Pay Roll, pp 29 and 30. He Married Catherine Fox (1750-1827), 1776; Children: Rosina, Dorothea, Catherine, John, Adam, Michael, Henry, Susannah, Paul & Cornelius. He Died on March 31, 1830 in Cheshire, Gallia Co., OH and Buried at Roush Cemetery, OSR 554, Cheshire, Gallia Co., OH 45620 1 mile back of Cheshire, OH. Grave not marked but supposed to be near that of Adam and Paul, his sons. He was in the battle of Point Pleasant against the Indians in 1774, under the command of Gen Lewis. He owned land in Shenandoah Co, Va. where his children were born. A stock holder in Ohio Land Co. He was a farmer, owning the tract of land just above Cheshire where Horton H. Roush now lives.
