Thomas Robertson (P-280220)
1745-1789
Civil Servant in the American War for Independence
My 3rd great grandfather Thomas was born in 1745 and was married to Penina Smith in May of 1763. Together they raised a family of seven children: Gideon, Joab, Nelly, Patty, Kisiah, Rebeca and Penina. Thomas was primarily a tobacco planter and on occasion performed a civil service in Caswell County during the period of the war. On a number of occasions evidence suggests that he provided supplies and forage to the militia and soldiers of the Continental Army.
In 1782, as the war neared its end, Thomas was appointed by the county to survey a roadway near his home.
Thomas passed away in 1789 when he was only 44 years of age. He left his plantation and possessions to his wife, Penina as long as she remained unmarried. Upon her remarriage, his estate was then bequeathed to the two sons, Gideon and my 2nd great grandfather, Joab Robertson and their sisters—Nelly, Patty, Kisiah, Rebeca & Penina.
Thomas’ wife, Penina, remarried shortly after his death to William Hall on 18 November 1783. She died three short years later in 1786 in Person County, North Carolina. Thomas’ son, my 2ndgreat grandfather, Joab, was apprenticed to Philip Thomas when he was eight years of age—years later he resided in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
Thomas’ grave is believed to be in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Respectfully Submitted,

Turner Lee Wilkerson III

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
