Author: William A. Roberts
William Roberts, son of William Roberts, was born about 1763 in Frederick County, Virginia and died 14 January 1835, in Marion County, Indiana. He married Hannah Fink, 22 March, 1787, Harrison County, Virginia, daughter of Henry Fink and Mary Magdalen Powers; she was born in 1760, in Virginia, and died 1835 in Ohio.
William was a young lad of sixteen, living along the Shenandoah River in Frederick County, Virginia, when he was called into the Militia. His military service is outlined as presented in his Revolutionary War Pension Application of 14 June 1834, to the Court of Common Pleas, Colerain Township, Ross County, Ohio and is as follows:
“I entered the service about one year and four months prior to the surrender of Lord Cornwallis. The Company was commanded by Captain Abraham Kendrick and his brother Lieutenant, Christopher Kendrick and was first mustered at Front Royal and then marched across the Blue Ridge into lower Virginia along the route to Fredericksburg, through Richmond across the James River, to Manchester and on to Petersburg. After staying in that area for some period of time the Company returned to Front Royal, along the same route after being gone for three months. The Company was disbanded at Front Royal with strict orders from Captain Kendrick to keep ready to reassemble at any moment. Within a few days after we had returned home word came to again muster at Front Royal, which the Company did and again under Captain Kendrick. We marched nearly the same route as previously taken to Richmond and then on to Petersburg, where after a period of time received word that General Washington was coming to lay siege to Yorktown. At this time we moved from place to place as a defense against the rising of the Negros and other marauders. After Cornwallis’s surrender we returned to Front Royal and were discharged.”

After the War removed to Harrison County, went out against the Indians under Colonel Edward Jackson, who commanded a company called Rangers. At the termination of the Old Indian War, removed to Ross County Ohio, where he resided for over thirty years.

The children of William and Hannah include

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
