Victor Richard was born about 1747 and was the son of Alexandre Richard and Marie Madeleine Thibodeau.
He lived in probably Chignecto until moving in 1752 to Malpeque, Ile St.-Jean, Acadie. Victor and his older brother, Pierre, joined the Acadian Resistance with the Beausoleil Broussards after escaping the British roundup in 1758. Both brothers were imprisoned by the British in 1760. He arrived single in Louisiana with the Broussard party and settled on the Opelousas Bellevue Prairie in the Opelousas District instead of Bayou Teche, as did most of the others in the party. In the 1788 Opelousas census, he had 150 cattle, 29 horses, and 16 arpents of land on his front boundary. On 13 May 1796, Victor and Pierre purchased six arpents on the Vermillion River by what is now the Breaux Bridge area.
Victor married Marie-Madeleine (Brasseur) Brasseaux before Nov 1775 in the Opelousas District. Their known children were:
Baptiste Victor was born on 26 November 1775 and married Marie Anne Vasseur.
Magdelaine was born on 10 May 1778 and married (1) Anacelet Cormier and (2)Ursin Bijot.

Alexandre was born on 21 January 1787 and died in 1807 unmarried.

Victor assisted in establishing American Independence as a Fusilier in the Opelousas Militia under Bernardo de Galvez. He participated in the capture of the British at Fort Bute at Manchac and the fort at Baton Rouge.
The Patriot died in Opelousas and was buried on 7 September 1808 at the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery, Opelousas, Louisiana. His name is included with others on a cemetery plaque commemorating their service in the Opelousas Militia.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
