Thomas Mann Randolph was born about 1741 at Tuckahoe in Goochland Co VA and died 20 Nov 1793 in Tuckahoe. He served as a Colonel in the Virginia Militia in 1779 and performed Patriotic Service as a Member of the Committee of Safety. In addition, he was Vestryman for Northham Parish, Burgess for Goochland County in 1772, member of the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1776, and member of Virginia Assembly 1769-1776. Thomas Mann Randolph grew up with Thomas Jefferson on the Tuckahoe Plantation. Peter Jefferson and cousin Jane (Randolph) Jefferson were named as the guardians of William Randolph’s children. When William Randolph died in 1745 Thomas Randolph was just 4 and the Jefferson’s moved to Tuckahoe Plantation until 1752 when Thomas Mann Randolph became of age to manage the plantation. Thomas Jefferson lived there from age 2 to 9. The two continued their friendship throughout their lives.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
