Author: Bobby Gilmer Moss
The following biography of Hugh Randolph was posted at findagrave.com. I am not the author.

From the Book called "Roster of South Carolina Patriots in American Revolution" by Bobby Gilmer Moss.

Randolph, Hugh
B. 16 May 1756, Richland County, South Carolina
Drafted during the spring of 1777, while residing in Fairfield District under Capt. William Simmons and Colonel's Goodwin and Taylor. Also served under Lt. James Craig, Capt. Simmons and Major Goodwin, Colonel Taylor, and General Williamson during the spring of 1778. He was under Major Butler in the Calvary just before the battle of Sullivan's Island. He was taken prisoner after the fall of Charleston and paroled. During the spring of 1782, he was drafted and sent against the Tories.

Deed Records of Chester County, South Carolina

1787 16 November, Indenture between Littleton Isbell and Hugh Randolph, both of Chester County, 10 shillings sterling, now in his actual possession by virtue of a bargain, 150 acres on Hedge Branch near Rockey River, adj East by John Mortans, West by Peter Sandefur, on South by John Bishop, and North by I said Grimmes. Witness:
Thomas Land, Sarah (X) Featherstone, Andrew Hemphill.
Signed Littleton Isbell, seal DB B, pg. 263

29 July 1801, Hugh Randolph of Fairfield District, South Carolina to Frances Sandifur of Chester County for $300, 140 acres in Chester County, South Carolina, waters of Rockey Creek, granted to Phillip Seale 6 February 1779, Hugh Randolph, witness James Randolph, J McCreary. Proved by James Randolph 29 July 1801.

Elizabeth Randolph wife of Hugh Randolph renounced dower 29 July 1801, Chester County South Carolina Deed Book H page 414 #213.

Hugh Randolph proved his residence in South Carolina until 1804, had other deeds involving members of the Sandifur family.

Sometime aft. 1805 Hugh and his family moved to Tennessee, near Bedford County. In Tennessee some of the Randolph Children married into the Sheffield (Shuffield) and Milam (MIleham) families. Marriage and death records in Lincoln County, support this. Hugh and his family moved to northern and central Mississippi, as did several of his siblings.

Hugh lived in Carroll County, Mississippi, I don't know when Elizabeth died, but we do know that Elizabeth's brother Aaron Lott and his family lived in Carroll County, Mississippi and that is where Hugh married Mary Hussey after Elizabeth's death. I can find no cemetery record for Elizabeth Randolph in Carroll County Cemetery Book, unless she died elsewhere, and Hugh moved to Carroll County, Mississippi to be near her family.

Alabama Department of Archives and History, Randolph, Hugh, aged 85, resided in Franklin County, June 1, 1840, with David Fuller. Census of Pensioners, 1841, pg. 148.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
