Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn
Born on April 14, 1757 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to Mr. & Mrs. John Quigley. He served as a Private 4th Class in the Cumberland County, Pennsylvania Militia, under Captain Thomas Askeys’ 1st Company of the 1st Battalion of the Cumberland County, PA Militia on July 31, 1777 and July 14, 1778; also in Captain Alex Peples Company as a Private 4th Class of the 1st Battalion of the Cumberland County, Militia on November 19, 1777, a part of his service was as a substitute for his father John. He lived in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania at time of enlistment and 1803 moved to Steubenville, OH, then moved to Beaver County, Pennsylvania for three years before moving to Columbiana County, OH. He married Rebecca McMasters; children: Samuel & Rebecca.
He opened a store in 1813 and kept the goods in his cabin. He died on April 21, 1842 and buried at Longs Run Cemetery, Calcutta, Columbiana County, OH.
