Manuel Perez, was born about 1735, a native of Zamora, Spain, began his service with the Spanish as a soldier August 1, 1754 and progressed in rank until he was commissioned as a lieutenant of grenadiers in 1768. He was involved in O'Reilly's expedition to Louisiana in 1769 and later in the capture of Fort Bute at Manchac and Baton Rouge in 1779. He was promoted to adjutant-major after Baton Rouge and was involved in the capture of Fort Charlotte in Mobile the next year. Following his promotion to captain in January 1780 he was involved with the capture of the forts at Pensacola. Manuel was married to Juana Catalina Dubois. He died after 1793
