Gilbert Patterson was born about 1720 in Maryland. He was married to Nancy Sarah McIvar in about 1758. The following are the names of children appearing in his estate records. It is unclear if all of them belong to his wife, Sarah.

  • Emanuel was born in about 1770.
  • Joab was born in about 1771 and married Elizabeth Bennett.
  • Chloe was born about 1760 and married Strangeman Modglin.
  • Celia was born about 1761 and married Cloud McCollum.
  • Charity was born about 1768 and married Jesse Poe.
  • Mordicai was born in about 1770.
  • Luke was born about 1778 and married Hannah Westbrook.
  • Gilbert was born about 1780.
  • Solomon was born in about 1782 and married Bathsheba Elton.
  • Charles was born in about 1784.
  • Mark was born on 2 March 1785 and married Sarah Riddle.
  • Ann was born in about 1787.

The Patriot was paid for service rendered by furnishing supplies to the Revolutionary Cause in North Carolina.

He died sometime before 24 September 1796 when his estate began probate in Chatham County, North Carolina. His place of burial is unknown.
