Henry Parks was born 31May1758 in Albemarle County, VA to John and Ann Parks. From 1775 Henry served in the Wilkes County militia with various deployments. He was in Benjamin Cleveland’s militia under Captain Joel Lewis on Saturday 07Oct1780 at Kings Mountain when a pewter ball pierced his arm. Henry Parks is not recognized in the list of casualties on the 1909 monument at Kings Mountain.

Tory doctor Uzal Johnson treated the wound the next day. Col. Cleveland assigned Henry’s uncle, George Parks, to escort him home. It took two months for Henry to recover. Henry lived on Parks Creek adjoining the Surry/Wilkes County line near Gabriel Loving and William Loving, near Little Elkin River. George is the probable bearer of the news of the Lewis and Biecknell wounds to their neighborhoods.

Parks married Martha Justice in Wilkes County 09Dec1782. Their children were William Justice Parks; Charles Parks; Johnson Parks; Nancy A. Parks; Henry Parks, Jr. and 3 others.; Mary "Polly" PARKS; Elizabeth PARKS and John PARKS « less Parks was a Methodist preacher from Virginia to Georgia.

Henry Parks’ Georgia certificate 30.615 was issued 04May1836 for a federal pension at $40/annum in Franklin County. The pension was suspended 15Oct1839. The archives do not explain administration from 1839 to his 18May1845 death. Parks was granted 287.5 acres of bounty land in Franklin County, Georgia. He was buried in Hargrove Cemetery in Jackson County Georgia. N 34* 13' 01.3" Long. W 83* 25' 44.5"

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
