Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn
Born March 5, 1761, Litchfield, Connecticut. He served 5 yrs as Pvt under Col Elisha Sheldon and Capts Stoddard, Hoagland, Wadsworth, 2nd Regt Continental Light Artillery, Conn Troops. He was at the battles of Brandywine, Monmouth, Frog's Neck and Young's at Tarrytown. Was shot in the head, but not entirely disabled. He married Sibbel Peck in 1785, (1761-1850); children: John, Lemuel, Harriet, Mary and Burr. Pensioned Sept 21, 1818. Amount $1,290.66, annual allowance $96.00. Settled in Conn and lived there several yrs. Later moved to Ohio and settled on a farm north of Worthington. He died September 29, 1831 and was buried at St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Plot Row 12 Grave 13, 700 High Street, Worthington, Franklin Co., OH. MI: "Lemuel Orton. Jr. died Sept 29, 1831, in the 71st year of his age." GM by Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker May 30, 1912. Ref: Compare Natl No. 69,100, Vol 70, p 39, and Natl No. 70,281, Vol 71, p 102, D. A. R. Lin. Further information: Delaware and Columbus Chap. 20th-27th Annual Reports DAR. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
