Johann Henrich “Henry or Hennery” Orth/Ortt was born on 6 April 1749 in Siegen, Westfalen, Prussia, the son of Johannes Henrich Ort.
He was married in 1765 at Siegen, Westfalen to Anna Catharina Hermen. Most of their children were born at Siegen.
His will, dated 5 November 1813, lists his wife, Catharina, and only calls out children Johannes and Catharina for special purposes. He then states that his estate should be divided equally among his children upon reaching 21 years of age but does list them by name. It is possible that daughter Catharina had predeceased her father, as he says her share goes to her two daughters.
Another document related to Henry’s daughter Eva’s death in 1823 lists her as single and her estate going to her siblings: Daniel, John, Abraham, Henry, Margaret (wife of Jacob Sorions[?]), Elizabeth (wife of Yost Kuhl), Maria (wife of Henry Weizle), Barbara (wife of Peter Gressley), Jacob, Adam, and the two children of Catharine Smith.
During the Revolutionary War in 1782, he was serving as a Private in the Company of Captain Simon Koppenhaffer of the 3rd Battalion of the York County, Pennsylvania Militia. Additionally, he paid taxes in York County that supported the war effort.
The Patriot died on 7 November 1813 in York County, Pennsylvania, and was buried at Quickels Lutheran Church graveyard.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
